It started in 1988 as “the fruit stand,” an open-air market at the bend of Murphy Road and 46th Avenue. Almost 20 years and a few blocks later, the Produce Place is both a neighborhood staple and the only destination for Nashvillians in search of the area’s finest produce from local merchants, natural and organic grocery products, and seasonal plants and herbs.
Over the years the mission of the Produce Place grew from carrying fresh seasonal produce, gourmet cheeses, pecans, and salad dressings, to providing thoughtfully selected grocery items, organic products, coffees, bulk items, and fresh eggs, seafoods, and meats. The Produce Place also offers one of Nashville’s only water filtration systems for your convenience.
What keeps Sylvan Park neighbors and others coming back to the 1900 square foot store, the former site of Jayne’s Quality Market, year after year? The dedication and careful attention of the staff, who between them have close to eighty years of combined service to the store and the neighborhood. Owner Barry Burnette cultivates and tends to relationships with local produce and grocery merchants, and tastes everything before he buys.
2008 will mark the twentieth anniversary of the Produce Place. Come by Sylvan Park soon to see why we’re Nashville’s favorite stop for fresh produce and more, year after year.
